Art is for everyone

The Broad was the first major museum in Los Angeles to offer free admission, believing that everyone should have access to art—to inspire, to question, to enjoy. As the downtown L.A. home to the vast pre-war and contemporary art collection of philanthropists Eli and Edythe Broad, it is a critical step forward for an inclusive, ascending urban cultural center that began with The Music Center’s opening in 1964.

Initially, The Broad approached us to design street banners and construction barriers to spotlight its opening. We also were asked to design promotional materials for The Un-Private Collection, a series of talks and interviews with artists held before live audiences in nearby historic theaters. With the initial aim of attracting, engaging and exciting an audience of art lovers old and new for its imminent opening, the talks were a touchpoint for its new role in Los Angeles’s cultural scene.
